In the past Walmart and other big box retailers have used the MABD, or Must Arrive by Date, to track order compliance. As of August 2017, suppliers of all sizes will be held to higher standards of compliance, known as OTIF or On Time in Full. MABD isn’t going away, there is still a must arrive by date for Wal-Mart shipments, however, the goal of OTIF is to narrow the shipping window and increase accuracy of orders. It is presumed that Walmart is competing for sales with Amazon, and is hoping if the improve stock, improve sales, and lower store inventory, they will have a better advantage. While this requires some work on the suppliers behalf to evaluate internal processes, technology, and carriers, the ultimate goal is to streamline all processes within their supply chain and ultimately save money.
